The Endangered @ Dallas Contemporary Museum of Art

October 27-29, 2023

A 55-minute music experience that deeply explores our connection with the endangered species of Dallas. Featuring internationally-acclaimed composer Sarah Kirkland Snider’s Mass For The Endangered as a framework, Verdigris Ensemble singers create a multi-sensory experience using Snider’s music, which is primarily set to text of endangered animals across the world, with a twist. Movements of Snider’s six-movement work are intertwined with world premiere music compositions from local composers, further hyper-contextualizing the music into urgent action within our city.

Beautification @ Dallas Contemporary Museum of Art

December 1-3, 2023

A world premiere immersive narration of Ladybird Johnson’s Highway Beautification Act as told from her own perspective. Intertwining the native flora of Texas with the words of Johnson, Verdigris Ensemble creates a music experience that uncovers the challenges of making the Highway Beautification Act a reality, all the while displaying the ever-constant thrum of nature versus humanity. Inspired by the Dallas Contemporary’s site-specific commission of South African award-winning visual artist Bianca Bondi, Verdigris Ensemble curates world premieres by several local and regional composers to create a new staged experience paying homage to the beauty of Texas and its unique flora.

Dust Bowl @ Wyly Theatre

February 23-25, 2023

Anthony J. Maglione’s acclaimed music, which played to sold-out audiences during its world premiere in 2020, triumphantly returns to Dallas. The originally-crafted work, hailed by Dallas critics as “breathtaking” and “unlike anything else in our city,” features first-hand accounts of survivors of the Dust Bowl with additional newspaper articles and diary entries. In collaboration with bluegrass band, video projection, and choreographed movement, Verdigris Ensemble brings Dust Bowl back to Dallas and asks the question: how did this happen and have we learned from our mistakes?

Mis-Lead @ Kalita Humphreys Theater

April 5-7, 2023

Verdigris Ensemble premieres its flagship music experience of the year, Mis-Lead, by nationally acclaimed composer Kirsten Soriano. In a stunningly sobering telling of West Dallas’s lead-infused past, Verdigris Ensemble narrates the true story of Dallas’s troubled past with lead smelting factories and their effects on West Dallas neighborhoods. Collaborating with Keri Mitchell and Dallas Free Press, Verdigris Ensemble uses eye-witness accounts, newspaper articles, and city council transcripts to bring to life one of the most impactful moments of the history of the City of Dallas.
