​V for Vendetta is a dystopian political thriller based on the graphic novel by Alan Moore and David Lloyd. Set in a near-future, totalitarian United Kingdom ruled by the fascist Norsefire regime, the film centers on a charismatic, masked anarchist known only as V (Hugo Weaving). V initiates an elaborate, violent campaign to bring down the oppressive government and incite a popular revolution. He saves Evey Hammond (Natalie Portman), a young woman who works for the state-run broadcasting network, and reluctantly draws her into his plans, forcing her to confront her own fears and the nature of freedom. The film is famous for its iconic Guy Fawkes mask, its memorable rhetoric, and its themes exploring political corruption, individual liberty, and the power of symbols to inspire change. It culminates on November 5th, as V attempts to fulfill his promise to blow up the Houses of Parliament.
