Overview

The Interface is Dead. Long Live the Conversation.

The modern user experience is moving beyond the screen. In the age of AI, users communicate with products through dialogue, not menus. This introductory session focuses on Conversational Design (CxD), the specialized practice of crafting engaging, effective, and human-like interactions for chatbots, voice assistants, and other AI agents that rely on Natural Language Interaction (NLI). We will explore how to transition from designing fixed visual elements to designing the fluidity and psychology of a conversation, preparing you for a future where the interface is invisible.

This lecture will cover the foundational principles necessary to shift your design mindset. You will learn to define the key differences between traditional UX and conversational interfaces, and discover how to design an appropriate and trustworthy Bot Persona. Crucially, we will teach you how to map complex, non-linear Conversational Flows that effectively handle user intent, manage context, and recover gracefully from errors. This involves applying core linguistic theories to ensure your digital dialogues are clear, helpful, and truly human-centered.

Finally, we will address the impact of Generative AI, focusing on how these powerful new tools change the designer's role. We'll explore the critical skill of Prompt Design and discuss the ethical responsibilities that come with creating highly fluent AI interactions. This is essential training for any Product professional—designer or manager—looking to master the art of creating intuitive, screen-less user experiences.
