New York City is a transient place, home to a diverse group of humans. Some people come here looking for fulfillment through a high-powered job. Some people come looking for acceptance they couldn’t get in their hometown. And yet, our lives can become isolated, and disconnected from the people around us.

Home evokes strong memories and desires in all of us. It might bring to mind a warm hug from parents, the smell of a home-cooked meal, or the feeling of snuggling up under the covers. The memory of home might be fraught with complications and pain. Is home a thing we find, or is it something we make? What does it mean for those of us who are not on the traditional marriage-kids path?

Enter Unsuitable Creatives: A Variety Show on the Search for Home.

Talented creatives will perform original work that explores this theme from different perspectives and via different media. MaryB. Safrit will be emceeing. Other performers are singer/songwriters Luke Rowland and Kayana, jazz guitarist Josh Wisterman, dance filmmaker Grace Copeland, flamenco dancer Paloma Rios, and poet Ellen Stedfeld (who will also be live sketching the event!).

What makes a home? When we search for "home," what are we actually searching for? How do spirituality and relationships play into our concept of home?
