Unlocking Neurodiversity: Practical Approaches for Health Coaches Webinar
Overview
This PCI webinar is delivered in partnership with the Association of Health and Wellbeing Coaches (CIC)
Brief Overview:
This webinar aims to enhance health coaches’ understanding of neurodiversity and how to adapt coaching approaches to better meet the needs of neurodivergent people. Key themes include autism, ADHD, learning differences, sensory profiles, communication styles, executive functioning, and the social model of disability. This session is important because neurodivergent individuals often face barriers to accessing personalised care, and health coaches play a crucial role in reducing those barriers through inclusive, strengths-based practice.
Learning Outcomes:
- A clear understanding of neurodiversity and common neurodivergent profiles, including autism, ADHD, dyspraxia, dyslexia, and learning disabilities.
- How sensory, cognitive, and communication differences impact health behaviours and engagement in coaching conversations.
- Practical adjustments, strengths-based coaching strategies tailored to neurodivergent individuals.
- How to recognise and reduce environmental, procedural, and attitudinal barriers within health and care settings.
- Real-world case studies illustrating effective personalised care for neurodivergent clients.
Improve Practice:
- By equipping health coaches with concrete strategies to personalise communication, goal-setting, and support planning.
- By building confidence in adapting standard coaching frameworks to increase accessibility and engagement.
- By improving practitioners’ ability to identify when additional support or reasonable adjustments may be required.
- By enhancing cultural competence and alignment with personalised care principles, equality duties, and strengths-based approaches.
For Practitioners:
- Increased confidence working with neurodivergent individuals.
- More effective coaching conversations and improved rapport.
- Reduced frustration, misunderstandings, and miscommunication.
For Patients:
- A more inclusive, empowering coaching experience.
- Better health outcomes through tailored support and reduced barriers.
- Greater sense of safety, autonomy, and trust in health and care services.
