Discover innovative techniques to elevate your painting skills! Join artist Mary Lou Pults for a two-session workshop at the Elliott Museum. These engaging classes will introduce methods and styles that may be new to you, helping you expand your artistic toolbox.

DATES & TIMES:

Thursday, August 14th, from 1:00pm – 4:00pm

Thursday, September 4th, from 1:00pm – 4:00pm

PARTICIPANTS WILL:

Explore creative techniques such as:

  • Mosaic-style color placement—colors and values laid side by side without blending
  • Abstract backgrounds paired with realistic subjects
  • Bold, textured effects using thick paint with brush and knife
  • Unique scraping tools for creating dramatic thick and thin applicationsEnjoy short demos and view inspiring examples during each classExperiment with oil and acrylic paints (Mary Lou will demonstrate both)

SUPPLIES:

Participants are responsible for their own supplies. Recommended supplies for these classes are:

  • 8x10 canvas or board (preferred)
  • Oil paints or Acrylic Paints. … any colors you have
  • Odorless min. Spirits .. no need to bring water if acrylic
  • Easel, either floor or table
  • Pallet and gloves
  • Rags and or paper towels
  • Brushes and pallet knives if you have them

Each session will feature a suggested subject or theme, but artists are welcome to choose their own.

ABOUT THE ARTIST

Mary Lou Pults is a seasoned painter who has lived and worked in Stuart, Florida for over three decades, deeply inspired by the untamed spirit of the region. Her work is rooted in plein air painting, embracing the challenges of painting outdoors in all seasons. In doing so, she captures the ever-changing resilience and diversity of Florida’s natural landscapes.

Her work has been featured at regional exhibitions, including participation in MartinArts’ events—such as the Artists’ Showcase held at Stuart’s Court House Cultural Center gallery. Through MartinArts and other local platforms, Pults contributes to Stuart’s rich art community and is regarded as a vibrant presence in the local arts scene.
