Description
This introductory training, facilitated fully in Spanish-Language, is designed to equips caregivers working with youth, particularly those involved in the child welfare and probation systems, with critical knowledge and practical tools to prevent human trafficking. Participants will explore the definition and scope of human trafficking, including California-specific trends, and understand its profound impact on youth, families, and communities. The training delves into how historical trauma, adverse childhood experiences (ACEs), and environmental factors increase vulnerability, particularly among system-involved youth and families. Using trauma-informed and culturally responsive approaches, caregivers will learn to identify red flags, strengthen protective factors, and implement prevention strategies at individual, family, and community levels. The material will be delivered by PowerPoint presentation, short video clips, group discussion, breakout (small group) discussions and participant workbook (handout).
Learning Objectives
- Participants will be able to define human trafficking and differentiate between labor trafficking and sex trafficking, including specific California laws addressing trafficking.
- Participants will identify at least five key risk factors that increase vulnerability to trafficking, including historical trauma, adverse childhood experiences (ACEs), and environmental contributors.
- Participants will demonstrate an understanding of at least three practical prevention techniques they can implement in their caregiving roles.
Transfer of Learning Goals
- Participants can implement trauma-informed, culturally responsive approaches when working with at-risk youth and caregivers. For example, they may use techniques learned in the training to identify red flags, build trust, and strengthen protective factors within their professional settings, such as schools, child welfare agencies, or probation programs.
- Participants can establish partnerships with local organizations, hotlines, and service providers specializing in human trafficking prevention and survivor support. This may include referring youth and families to appropriate resources or advocating for stronger safety networks within their communities.
