Understanding Non-Fatal Strangulation in Gender-Based Violence

Join us for an essential learning session exploring non-fatal strangulation (NFS) — one of the most serious and frequently overlooked forms of gender-based violence. If you can, come earlier (12 noon) and also join us for our homicide timeline session.

This event will help participants understand what NFS is, why it matters, and how to recognise its signs and respond safely and effectively. We’ll explore the physical, psychological, and coercive aspects of strangulation, and the crucial role practitioners and communities can play in supporting survivors and preventing escalation.

Delivered as part of the 16 Days of Activism to End Gender-Based Violence, this session aims to deepen understanding, build confidence, and strengthen multi-agency responses.
