Event description

Description

Please take the stairs between Free People and Canova on Pearl Street down. The event space is in the hallway on the right.

This workshop will focus on exploring induced emotional reactions to our clients as holding key insights into their maturational needs. This includes learning to welcome positive and negative transferences with curiosity and receptivity. A demonstration group will be used to illuminate the topic and to better understand our openness and resistances to emotional experience as it arises in the here-and-now.

Presentation includes a Live Demo Process Group with optional participation (80% experiential learning)

Learning Objectives:

The attendee will be able to:

1. Distinguish between different forms of countertransference reactions, including objective & subjective, complementary & concordant .

2. Define countertransference resistance and develop a greater appreciation for its role in psychotherapy.

3. Identify emotions that you may unconsciously discourage in your clinical work.

4. Discuss the role of self-acceptance in effective psychotherapy.

5. Understand the maturational role of emotional communication between therapist and client.

6. Identify ways a psychotherapist can develop emotional insulation.
