EVENT DETAILS

We are offering a free one-day workshop where we unpack the black box of educational testing and measurement. Assuming little or no statistical knowledge, we cover the basics of educational assessment including how standardized assessments (state and interim) are developed and how educators can appropriately evaluate and interpret those assessments and their results.

Participants are encouraged to bring score reports and other test materials, which will be used to illustrate important concepts and to help understand the potential and limitations of standardized testing. We will provide the training and training materials for free.

To encourage attendance and ensure support from your school/school corporation, we are asking all those who register to send us (alliniu@indiana.edu) an email from a supervisor stating approval and support to attend the workshop (e.g., "I support [NAME OF EDUCATOR ATTENDING] in attending the Understanding and Using Standardized Assessments Workshop at Indiana University on [DATE OF WORKSHOP]." This email of support should be sent within two weeks of registering for the workshop.

  • School-level staff/faculty should get a letter of support from their building principal;
  • School-level administrators should get a letter of support from the corporation-level administration (e.g., secondary/elementary director, assistant superintendent, superintendent); and
  • Corporation-level staff should get a letter of support from an assistant superintendent or superintendent.
  • Superintendents are not required to provide a letter of support.

Educators who attend the workshop will receive a certificate for 6 PGP points towards license renewal. Educators can receive 2 additional PGP points if they complete some readings/activities outside of the workshop time.
