Transforming Value Chains and Developing Inclusive Markets

In the face of a changing climate, value chains need to be more diverse, inclusive, and economically, environmentally, and socially sustainable. Resilient food systems should implement four key pillars of sustainability:

Prioritize environmental conservation, utilizing resources in an efficient, circular manner and reducing waste to a minimum, while adapting a low-to-neutral carbon and water strategy.

Provide access to food that satisfies the sociocultural needs of all, supporting growers, collaborating with local communities, and preventing inequalities within the system.

Promote and advance human health and wellbeing, preventing disease and providing nutritional accessibility through a sustainable diet.

Ensure economic viability, with affordable products and a resilient and traceable supply chain, reflective of the true cost of food production with consideration to health and environmental impact.

Panel 1, Part 1. How to build a truly just transition for farmers, ranchers, and eaters

This panel will focus on the different voices that need to be at the table for a just transition to more sustainable food systems. Too often, these conversations have left out the voices of farmers and ranchers as well as transparency for eaters and consumers. To achieve a just transition, these voices need a platform for engagement with businesses, policymakers, and other stakeholders.

This panel will explore the power that eaters’ food choices have to solve the climate crisis.
