Event description

Description

Only 23 years after the great Chicago Fire of 1871, prominent Chicago and Union League Club of Chicago leaders were inspired to fight for Chicago being awarded the World’s Columbian Exposition of 1893. Greg Cook, Principal of Holabird & Root architectural firm, will tell the incredible stories of how Daniel Burnham’s innovative vision determined the design esthetic of the World’s Columbian Exposition buildings and site and ultimately the future of Chicago architecture and design.

A cocktail reception with a cash bar and light appetizers will start at 5:30 pm featuring a display of the Union League Club's recently conserved prints from Hubert Howe Bancroft’s “Book of the Fair” and other archival artifacts from the ULCC World’s Columbian Exposition Collection. The lecture will start at 6:00 pm. The price is $25 per person.

Please note that the Union League Club has a business casual dress code. Denim is not permitted.
