Inspiring lineup of six short documentaries featuring stories from Kenya, Morocco and Pakistan.

This event is part of ongoing celebrations marking the closing of British Council's 2025 UK/Kenya Season of Culture.

Three short documentaries are drawn from Stories Showcase, a touring programme from the British Council & Scottish Documentary Institute and the three from Kenya Film Commission’s Kalasha Awards archive.

IN THE MIND OF A THIEF
Dir. Yasmine Mahjoubi (Morocco)
A playful exploration of the inner world of young thieves, and the unusual friendship struck with the filmmaker through hand-drawn animated sequences.

EMBRACING BRILLIANCE
Dir. Samuel Oduor (Kenya)
In a world that often underestimates those with albinism, Jairus Ongetta is an athlete who defies stereotypes and embraces his unique abilities, inspiring others to focus on their own potential and rewrite the narrative of what it means to be a champion.

MY BODY, YOUR CHOICE
Dir. Areeba Naveed & Dir. Fatima Syed (Pakistan)
Aurat March’s feminist slogan “My body, my choice” has different meanings to different generations in Pakistan. The film explores those divisions.

PINK CHAMPIONS
Dir. Omar Kibulanga (Kenya)
Inspiring stories about the struggles and triumphs of Christine Lugusa, Fatma Shambi, Rosemary Kaibunga and the late Martha Njora, four breast cancer warriors from Kilifi and Mombasa.

GRAVEYARD FOR GIANTS
Dir. Madeeha Syed, Dir. Hasan Haider Tazeen Bari & Dir. Faizan Suleman (Pakistan)
Workers the size of ants standing next to the giant ships they are dismantling, risk their life to scrap a living.

KESHO PIA NI SIKU
Dir. Ng’endo Mukii (Kenya)
Mama Mereka is a smooth-talking, hymn-singing grandmother who runs Kanyoko Boutique in Nairobi, Kenya, a business she unintentionally started from the boot of her 1990 Toyota Corolla.

This screening will be followed by a Q&A with the subjects of the short Kenyan documentaries, including Jairus Ongetta and Njeri Mereka, moderated by programme curator, Wanjeri Gakuru.

The evening will close with a cocktail and networking session.
