Do I have to be in engineering to enroll in ENGR 401?

Accepted Answer

No, Spring 23 semester involved a multidisciplinary team of Information Computer Science, Shidler Business, and Engineering students.  We're looking for any majors that can diversify and innovate solutions.

When I enroll, it says I need permission.

Accepted Answer

When enrolling and if you receive an alert message, please email Dr. Katie Taladay, taladay@hawaii.edu.  She will provide an override for students interested in enrolling for the course.

Question 3

When and what time are the classes held for Fall?

Accepted Answer

Classes will be Tuesday and Thursday's 1:30-2:45pm.  Tuesdays are structured for lessons learned in business fundamentals and Thursdays will be group presentations to the class on progress made from that week.  For example, how many interviews have you conducted and your group's analysis.

How are projects assigned?

Accepted Answer

Projects are structured as problem statements.  Students choose their problem statement and once assigned, your team will work directly with the problem sponsor through the semester to conduct customer discovery to thoroughly understand the problem before providing a solution concept.

Can I put the experience received from my assigned project on my resume?

Accepted Answer

Yes!  As a matter of fact, we encourage you to do so as you are working on a real world problem that you potentially could provide a solution for.  The experience you gain from the process are valid skills for your resume.

What are other benefits from this course?

Accepted Answer

You learn applied problem solving skills that you can use in your career field.  We also match students to internships for those interested in continuing the same projects with  sponsors and other opportunities.  You will also be part of a strong network of industry & government professionals.
