TYP Professional Development Workshop Series | How to Be You Onstage.
Overview
TYP’s Professional Development Workshop series is designed to help our members grow their soft skills, build confidence, and level up in their careers through practical, hands-on learning experiences.
Join us on November 18th for Reclaim. Frame. Proclaim. How to Be You Onstage. – our last PD Workshop of the year!
According to the National Social Anxiety Center, "the fear of public speaking is the most common phobia ahead of death." Reasons include fear of judgment, fear of making mistakes, fear of embarrassment, a lack of experience or preparation, and social anxiety.
And it doesn't help that most public speaking advice tells you to be more polished, more professional, more like everyone else on that stage, essentially amplifying every one of those fears.
But the truth is that you already have a powerful voice. You already have stories worth telling. It isn't about becoming some carbon copy of what we've been fed is a 'good public speaker'; it's about reclaiming who you've always been, framing your message in a way that immediately establishes trust, and proclaiming it to the audience with confidence.
Speaker Frank Velásquez Jr., Founder of 4 Da Hood, staunchly believes that speakers who show up as themselves are the ones who genuinely move audiences. In this Lunch and Learn, Frank is gonna share some easy strategies that lean into your natural speaking strengths and build a public speaking approach that feels like YOU. You'll learn practical techniques to own any stage without losing yourself in the process.
You'll walk away with a framework to personalize your speaking style, the courage to show up fully when it's your turn to speak, and the confidence to drop that mic.
Let’s reclaim your voice so you can speak with more authenticity, courage, and joy!
🥗 A light lunch will be provided.

About Our Speaker:
Meet Frank Velásquez Jr. (he/him): Storyteller Extraordinaire, Social Justice Warrior, and Master of Relations! In relentless pursuit of racial and gender equity, Frank’s warmth brings folks together to talk through the tough stuff. And whether he’s delivering a keynote on leadership, language, or equity, or chatting one-on-one with a close friend or new connection, his real-talk energy remains powerful and generous. Because here's the thing – to Frank, each person’s story matters and connects, like each essential ingredient in a yummy bowl of gumbo.
From major conferences like the Nonprofit Storytelling Conference, AFP ICON, and AFP Lead to training rooms everywhere from Walt Disney World to the MGM Grand Las Vegas, Frank has reached thousands of folks with narratives that just hit different, leaving each group invigorated with his unique blend of storytelling magic, quick wit, and social justice fire!
As the Founder of 4 Da Hood and the visionary behind the Ascending Leaders in Color leadership program, Frank forges pathways for Peeps of Color to step into their power - authentically, courageously, and with unapologetic joy. Because for Frank, advancing equity isn’t just a job - it's about thriving in a world our ancestors dreamed for us, a world where communities of color have equal access and opportunity to build their generational wealth.
And he's doing it one connection, one story, one courageous conversation at a time.
