The Texas State Innovation Series features interactive presentations and panels led by diverse experts held on the second Thursday of every month at STAR Park. You won't get a better chance to get 1:1 time with some of the most interesting innovators in central Texas, so bring your questions and get ready to discuss ideas and grow your companies and projects.

Our keynote speaker is Eric Simone, founder and CEO of ClearBlade Inc., an Enterprise Edge Computing Internet of Things (IoT) software company focused on large enterprises in the transportation, building facilities, and connected products markets. Prior to starting ClearBlade, Eric was the founder and CTO of Compete Incorporated, which sold to Perficient Inc. (PRFT) for $63M in May of 2000. Earlier in his career, Eric achieved success in senior engineering, product, and sales positions at IBM and Johns Hopkins Hospital. He will share trends and perspectives driving this market at all layers of the technology stack. Learn the keys to successful architecture and business transformations enabled.
Our spotlight speaker is Hunter Martaindale. He is the Director of Research for the ALERRT Center at Texas State University. The ALERRT Center provides our nation’s first responders with active shooter and medical response training. Hunter will discuss current efforts to integrate virtual reality into ALERRT’s training as well as the need for improved virtual reality tools to enhance research on topics such as embodied perception, decision-making, law enforcement tactics, and victim services.
Our second spotlight speaker is Zilliang Zong, an Associate Professor of the Computer Science Department. He will discuss the unprecedented increase of energy demand and carbon emissions of digital technologies, as it is expected that digital industry will contribute to 14% of global greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions by 2040. His thesis is that the digital industry must put sustainability at the core of technologies and take bold and immediate actions to reduce its GHG emissions.
