Tunnel Books (Workshop)

Originally called peepshow books, tunnel books are dimensional books that emerged in 15th century Europe to illustrate the mechanics of vision and have evolved into picture books that function as miniature stages, creating theater-like scenes when fully extended. They are constructed by adhering cut paper pages to the folds of two concertinas, also called accordion folds. In this 2-hour workshop, participants will learn how to construct their own tunnel books and fill with creative content. This structure is easily adaptable to a variety of learners, from elementary to adult, and does not require any prior bookmaking experience.
