Participants will be introduced to the art of weaving during this great multi-day, virtual workshop led by Brian Krehbiel of Agency Creek Expressions LLC. Brian is a member of the Confederated Tribes of the Grand Ronde and he has 15+ years of experience as a tribal educator. Although Brian is an enrolled member of Grand Ronde, his tribal lineage descends from: Niissing band of Ojibway, Chinook, Luckiamute Kalapuya, Umpqua, Iriquois, Shasta, Tillamook, Takilma, Mary’s River Kalapuya, German, Irish and Spanish.    

On September 19, Brian will give a presentation on gathering native vegetation and materials, processing and weaving, along with how he learned to weave. After the introduction, Brian will help participants start the process of creating their own mat with supplies provided by the Friends of Netarts Bay WEBS.

Registered participants will be invited back the following weekend to review their work with Brian and get final guidance on creating their mat. This virtual check in will be on September 27 from 10-11am and is optional.

SUPPLIES: Friends of Netarts Bay WEBS will supply all the needed supplies for this event including dried tule, string/twine, and needles. Participants are required to pick the materials up at the Netarts Bay WEBS office. You will be asked to pick a time to get your supplies during the registration process. If this is a challenge, please contact us. We will make alternative arrangements on a case by case basis. Our office located next to the Netarts Community Club at 4949 Netarts Hwy West. You can select a time to pick up your supplies during registration.

Please wear a mask and follow appropriate social distancing protocols to ensure the safety of our volunteers when picking up supplies.

We will be using ZOOM to connect with participants for both the main event on September 19 and the optional check-in on September 27.
