Resume: Encryption of emails is a standard in today’s communication to protect the content of an email from being read by unwanted parties.

A possible approach is to use public key infrastructure-based encryption methods, like S/MIME or OpenPGP. In this session the standard S/MIME (Secure / Multipurpose Internet Mail Extensions) will be discussed, including the new version 4.0. The other standard OpenPGP (Open Pretty Good Privacy) will be discussed and both standards will be compared.

Short profile: Dr. Rolf Kremer, born in 1967, works as R&D manager at GBS Europa GmbH. After completing a commercial apprenticeship, he studied business informatics in Paderborn and completed his doctorate at the University of Paderborn. Since 1994 he has held various positions in the field of software development for business software.
