About this event

Has curling been on your to-do list for years? During this 90 minute session, you will learn the basics of curling, get out on the ice, learn how to slide and throw some rocks! The Lansing Curling Club has instructors who are formally trained through the United States Curling Association and know how to get you curling quickly and safely. All skills and athletic abilities welcome - we have adaptive gear for those who are less flexible! Spots are limited to ensure no waiting in line. After this event you are invited to join us for some full games by joining a league or dropping in.

Frequently asked questions

What should I wear?

Bring a pair of clean shoes. It's best to dress in layers. You may find you are chilly right when you come out on the ice, but we will get you moving quickly and you'll rapidly warm up. Pants with a good amount of stretch (no jeans).

What if I have a knee/hip/other injury where I can't get into a lunge?

No problem! Stick curling is one of the fastest growing areas of the sport, and avoids any deep bending. Just let us know and we will be happy to accommodate.

Do I need to bring my own curling equipment?

No! The Lansing Curling Club has all the equipment to use during your session that you will need. That includes all the curling rocks, quality brooms, grippers and sliders for your shoes and stabilizers. Don't worry, we will be explaining what all of this is and how to use it.

Is curling safe?

Like all sports, there is a risk of injury. If you are particularly concerned or have a history of head injuries, bike or multi-sport helmets can be worn. Knee pads (eg volleyball) may be useful while you learn to balance. Participants will be asked to sign a waiver acknowledging the risks.

If I start now, can I be an Olympic curler in 2026?

Unfortunately, the Lansing Curling Club's crystal ball is down for maintenance and we cannot provide a certain answer at this time. We recommend as a next step to sign up for a league to get in as much practice before Milano Cortina as possible!
