Trials & Tributaries: Recent Bivalve Restoration in Newtown Creek

Trials & Tributaries: Recent Bivalve Restoration in Newtown Creek

By Newtown Creek Alliance

Overview

A community session on nature based restoration in NY Harbor and the Creek

Join Newtown Creek Alliance and the Billion Oyster Project for an evening exploring bivalve restoration in Newtown Creek and New York Harbor. This community share-out will highlight recent intertidal projects, lessons learned from ongoing monitoring, and the unique role filter feeders play in improving water quality throughout the city. Staff from both organizations will walk through project design, permitting challenges, and findings, offering a look at how nature-based solutions are being used to support wild oyster and mussel populations.

The second half of the program will feature artist Priscilla Stadler, who will share her research into historic mussel populations in the Creek and lead a hands-on printmaking activity using custom stencils and fabric. Feel free to bring your own fabric or shirts for printing!
