About this event

  • Event lasts 5 hours

This summer and autumn, Preston Park is proud to host a series of exciting events along the historic route of the Stockton & Darlington Railway (SDR).

We’re teaming up with Tees Archaeology to carry out investigations and excavations along the original trackbed within the park grounds.

First up: Tree & Plant Condition SurveyHelp us better understand how to care for this important Scheduled Monument by surveying the trees and plants growing near and over the trackbed and other SDR structures.

Location: Footpath near North Lodge, Preston Park

Date: Tuesday 12th & Wednesday 13th August

Age: 16+

Cost: Free

What to bring:

  • Packed lunch & water bottle
  • Long trousers & sturdy boots
  • Sunscreen & raincoat (just in case!)

🌿 We’ll be working in the wooded area north of North Lodge, along narrow paths that may present some mobility challenges. If you're less mobile, there are still ways to get involved – from helping with forms to supporting the team with measuring tapes and canes.

Come be part of this unique opportunity to connect with nature, history, and community!
