About this event

  • Event lasts 2 hours

In 2022, the Chicago Region Trees Initiative (CRTI) planted 30 trees with the Illinois Medical District in a volunteer tree planting. Join us this July as we return to the site for a maintenance workday re-mulching these young trees. Properly placed mulch has significant benefits to soil quality and a tree's long-term survival!

CRTI will also be talking about the benefits of trees and teaching tree ID throughout this workday.

No experience is necessary and all ages are welcome!

  • Make sure to check the weather and dress appropriately. Closed toe shoes are required!
  • Bring a full water bottle, snack, and sunscreen. All other tools and equipment will be provided.
  • Should any severe weather occur, please check your email for any updates.

The Chicago Region Trees Initiative (CRTI) is The Morton Arboretum’s urban and community forestry program, working to improve the health, diversity, and equitable distribution of trees in the Chicago region and throughout Illinois. CRTI partners with and facilitates collaboration among more than 500 organizations in the public, private, and nonprofit sectors to inspire tree stewards and build municipal capacity and support for trees, with a focus on environmental equity and disadvantaged communities.
