Join Adam Downing for this informative talk on how to determine what is going on with trees you might be concerned about on your property. Content will cover what to look for, what to do, and who to contact for assistance in addressing specific tree issues. The presentation will include information on tree diseases, problematic insects, soil dynamics, and atmospheric concerns. This class aims to simplify tree diagnosis triage.

This Tree Basic class will be held at 7 pm on Wednesday, November 12 at the Ivy Creek Natural Area Education Building at 1780 Earlysville Rd Charlottesville, VA 22901.

Adam Downing is an Extension Agent with the Forestry and Natural Resources Extension Agent in Virginia’s Northwest District that spans the Shenandoah Valley and Northern Piedmont. Adam holds a B.S. in Forestry from Purdue University and a Master’s in Forest Resources from Penn State University. He is a Fellow in the Society of American Foresters, was named the National recipient of the Technology Transfer Award in 2021, received the Gerald P. McCarthy Award for Leadership in Environmental Conflict Resolution from the UVA Institute for Engagement & Negotiation in 2023, and received the John A Beale award from the Society of American Foresters in 2024.

Adam’s mission is to enable people to make best decisions regarding the forest and natural resources, within their realm of influence, resulting in environmentally sustainable management, growth, and quality of life for individuals and their community.
