About this event

  • 1 hour

Kim Cooper is a Korean person who was raised by white parents in Iowa, and boy has she been through some weird times! Trauma Response is a one hour comedic solo show that dives into the everyday and once-in-a-lifetime traumas she’s experienced as a transracial* Korean adoptee. It's storytelling! It's sketch! It's a quest for racial identity and belonging when you've been severed from your birth culture and your birth mom, creating a ripple of events in your life ranging from mildly embarrassing to the deepest pain you've ever felt! What could be funnier than that?!

*Transracial means an adoptee who is a different race than the family they were adopted into, usually children of color adopted into white families, but not always.

If ticket cost is prohibitive, a limited number of donated tickets are available. Please reach out via the "Contact the Organizer" button to reserve one!

Kim Cooper (writer/performer) is an actor, writer, and transracial Korean adoptee from Iowa. She can be seen on Adam Ruins Everything, Black Monday, in national commercials, and performing with all-Asian American improv team Voltron at Asian AF and Voltron AF. She can be heard co-hosting the podcasts Asians in Baseball and Korean Drama Podcast, and in karaoke rooms around Los Angeles, scream-singing early 2000s jams.

Kaitlyn Tanimoto (director) is a comedian, actress, writer from Orange County, California. She has been seen on HBO’s Camping, ABC’s The Goldbergs and Adam Ruins Everything. Her sketches have been featured on Funny Or Die and Elizabeth Banks' WhoHaha. She was an actor and writer for the CBS Diversity Showcase in 2016, and part of the inaugural staff writing team for the 2019 CBS Diversity Showcase. She was an actor on the Upright Citizens Brigade Maude team “The New Deal” and has also been featured on the improv comedy podcast “Comedy Bang Bang”. She loves books, steak and WWII!
