About this event

SLPs have been begging for how to address the mental health crisis in our country, especially post-pandemic. One way of ensuring we do not cause unintentional harm to clients is to use trauma-informed care. By using self-reflection, you can understand what happens when you are dysregulated. When you as the provider are regulated, it allows you to co-regulate with clients.

Time Ordered Agenda:

  • What is trauma? (20 min)
  • What is trauma informed care? (30 min)
  • How can we be trauma-informed SLPs? (70 min)

Upon course completion:

Participants will be able to...

1. Define trauma and explain its potential impact on communication, behavior, and learning in children and adolescents.

2. Identify the core principles of trauma-informed care and how they apply to speech-language pathology and related service settings.

3. Develop practical strategies to create emotionally safe, supportive, and responsive environments for students impacted by trauma.

Speaker Biography:

Rachel Archambault, MA, CCC-SLP (also known as the @ptsd.slp) is a Speech-Language Pathologist and Program Specialist for Broward County Public Schools. Through that journey, she discovered the power of trauma-informed care (TIC). Today, she speaks nationally to SLPs, educators, and healthcare professionals on how to integrate trauma-informed practices into their work, fostering safer, more supportive environments for all.
