Transformer’s 2025 Collector’s View series, the 18th year of this annual spring program, shares the private collections and studios of a select group of DC’s most prominent artists!

Through this series of intimate Thursday evening receptions taking place throughout May 2025, guests will be provided insider perspectives on the motivations, interests, and passions of our dynamic Hosts on the artwork they both create and collect. Purchasing tickets to this innovative Transformer program not only gets you access to these exclusive tours, but also supports Transformer in cultivating new audiences and building awareness of the broad relationships that grow from supporting artists and collecting visual art. Thursday, May 1 | Robin Rose & Judy Penski (Forest Hills, DC)

Well-known artist and collector, Robin Rose and his wife, Judy Penski have created an important statement in their home about the collaboration of art, architecture and design. Their 1955 Trudeau-designed house showcases the work of George Nakashima, Hans Wegner and Carl Auböck. The art collection is focused primarily on DC artists from the 1960s to the present, with works by Thomas Downing, Gene Davis and Leon Berkowitz. The visual art in concert with the design collection speaks to Rose and Penski's vision of the importance of harmony and ascension as the philosophic basis of their approach to collecting. Robin Rose is represented by Hemphill Fine Arts.

Thursday, May 8 | Carol Brown Goldberg and Hank Goldberg (Chevy Chase, MD)

Collector’s View attendees are invited to the home of Hank Goldberg and Carol Brown Goldberg, as well as the studio of Carol Brown Goldberg. Their home contains a personal collection of paintings, drawings, and sculpture that concentrate on original works from the mid 20th century with many notable artists on the walls. Carol studied under Gene Davis at the Corcoran School of Art, and has exhibited in the U.S. and internationally in over 100 solo and group exhibitions. Many of her large outdoor sculptures can be seen throughout the U.S., with notable installations at The Kreeger Museum, Johns Hopkins University Hospital in Baltimore, Maryland, and The Reading Public Museum in Reading, Pennsylvania. This View provides a unique look at both the artist and her process, as well as the collection that grew out of her inspiration and passion for creating art. Carol Brown Goldberg is represented by Addison/Ripley Fine Art in Washington, DC.

Thursday, May 15 | Frank Hallam Day (Mount Pleasant, DC)

Fine art photographer Frank Hallam Day and wife Lynn welcome you into their restored 3-story historic townhouse in Mount Pleasant. The home, built in 1909, houses large photographs spanning 30 years of Day’s career that cover the walls along with works by Jason Gubbioti, Colby Caldwell, Colin Treado, Dan Perkins and more. You’ll even find 17th century Dutch woodcuts and other treasures.

Frank’s work is in many national and international collections including the Berlinische Galerie und Landesmuseum in Berlin, the Portland Museum of Fine Arts, the San Diego Museum of Photographic Arts, the Harn Museum at the University of Florida, the Phillips Collection, American University’s Katzen Arts Center, the Kreeger Museum, the Baltimore Museum of Art, and the Orlando Museum of Art. Among accolades are the 2012 Leica Prize, several published photo books with Kehrer Verlag, and many awards for fellowships, grants, and residencies. He is represented by Addison/Ripley Fine Art in Washington, DC.

Thursday, May 22 | Joan Danziger (Forest Hills, DC)

Joan Danzinger, a long-time visual artist that has been exhibiting nationally for 50 years and securing major commissions since 1990, welcomes you to her arts and crafts home. Surrounded by towering trees and her own sculptural works, her home and studio are a magical collection of animals, nature, and myth, filled with the artist’s sculptures and drawings, as well as artifacts from trips to Africa, East Asia, and India which have largely influenced her work. Guests will be able to preview Danziger’s light-filled studio and her new series of multi-colored glass ravens that will be presented at the American University Katzen Art Center in 2026 as part of a solo retrospective exhibition.

Danziger’s first bronze commission of an outdoor landscape sculpture is installed at Grounds for Sculpture in Hamilton, NJ, and her work is included in the collections of: The Smithsonian American Art Museum, The National Museum of Women in the Arts, Reading Public Museum, National Sporting Library and Museum, The Children's Museum of Pittsburgh, PA, The New Jersey State Museum, and The Jacksonville Museum of Arts and Science.

Thursday, May 29 | Kelly Dinglasan Minton & Joel Minton (Kalorama, DC) with special performance by Dana Tai Soon Burgess Dance Company

Concluding this extraordinary 18th season of Transformer’s Collector’s View series, we are honored to celebrate Asian American Pacific Islander month with Filipina-American Artist Host, Kelly Dinglasan Minton. Her new series of dancer paintings are inspired by the artistry of the American Ballet Theater and our non-profit colleague, the Dana Tai Soon Burgess Dance Company (DTSBDC). Kelly’s continuous line paintings capture the positive spirit and essence of her subjects, never more than in her new dancer series, which conveys the energy and love across traditional and modern dance.

Now in its 32nd season, DTSBDC is Washington's premier modern dance company. Dana is a 4th generation Korean American. The Washington Post says of the company, “not only a Washington prize, but a national dance treasure.” Guests will have the unique opportunity to view Kelly’s paintings while experiencing dance performances specially choreographed by Dana within Kelly’s home in the Sheridan-Kalorama Historic District. All ticket sales for this View will be split between Transformer and the Dana Tai Soon Burgess Dance Company.
