About this event

Trail Treks, scheduled on the last Thursday of the month, provide exercise-focused hikes and opportunities to discover Midpen's beautiful preserves.

On the day before Halloween, will you see bats flying out of the old white barn? Join Docent Naturalists Nancy Weintraub, Nick Yatsko, and Bobbie Riedel on a moderately-paced hike at a seldom visited area of this quiet landscape. You’ll take in picturesque views along the Cielo and Coho Vista Loop trails and learn about new trails opening soon that connect the lower and upper portions of this preserve. Reservations are required and will be accepted on or after October 16 at 12:00 p.m. (Noon) and close October 29 at 2:00 p.m.

Where to Meet:

Meet at the Allen Road Permit Parking Area. From I-280, take CA-84 west for 6.8 miles. Turn right on CA-35/Skyline Boulevard and travel 2.3 miles. Turn left onto Bear Gulch Road. After 0.6 miles, turn left onto Allen Road for one mile. Continue onto Kebet Ridge Road for 0.3 miles. The preserve will be on your right. Note: Vehicle access requires a parking permit, which the docent will have. There is no parking available outside of the preserve gate on Allen Road.

Organized by

Created in 1972, the Midpeninsula Regional Open Space District is an independent special district that helps plants, animals and people thrive throughout the greater Santa Cruz Mountains region by preserving a connected greenbelt of more than 65,000 acres of public open space. These diverse and scenic landscapes, from bay wetlands to redwood forests and coastal grasslands, host an incredible diversity of life, making our region one of the world’s biodiversity hotspots.

Midpen’s purpose is to create a regional greenbelt of unspoiled public open space lands in order to permanently protect the area’s natural resources and to provide for public use and enjoyment. On the Coast, Midpen has an expanded mission to acquire and preserve agricultural land of regional significance, preserve rural character and encourage viable agricultural uses of land resources.
