Powderhall Bronze Editions is excited to be showcasing a curated selection of works by renowned Norwegian artist Tove Hirth as part of their summer exhibition programme from the 25th July - 17th August.
Born in Jevnaker in Norway in 1970, Tove Hirth completed a BA in sculpture at Edinburgh College of Art and later achieved a Masters in Sculpture and Bronze casting from The Royal College of Art in London. Working in wax and casting into bronze since graduating, Hirth is one of Powderhall Bronze fine art foundry’s longest standing customers, using the foundry’s casting services for over thirty years.
Hirth’s work aims to express what she cannot say in words. Fascinated by the human body, her figurative pieces are inspired by human emotions, relationships and the amazing feats our bodies can achieve. This exhibition features pieces made over the past 15 years alongside selected works from Hirth’s latest body of work titled ‘Out of the Woods’.
“For the past five years I have struggled with illness. Working towards a major solo exhibition in Norway this autumn has been an integral part of beating a deep depression.
I have been drawn to nature and its incredible beauty since I could walk. I am moved by stones, wood and leaves in their abundance of repetition and perfection. Something, no matter how skilled I become, I find impossible to emulate. In this new work I have allowed nature to enter my space and work – to inform and direct me.
My desire to create this work comes from a place of gratitude. When everything fails or hurts, the process of transformation continues miraculously to transgress the darkness.
I feel literally Out Of The Woods, and I have a belief that we all can find a way out – and a way home.” (Tove Hirth)
