Description

2017 TOTP GroupThe Tour of the Peace began in 2016 as a 144 km bike ride to raise money for JDRF in support of a cure for Type 1 Diabetes. The 2017 Tour of the Peace ride was pushed up to a 150 km cycling distance in order to celebrate Canada's 150th birthday. For 2018 we have something completely new! Diabetes affects people of all walks of life, ages and abilities and so we want to make the Tour of the Peace accessible to everyone! The 2018 Tour of the Peace will still have the challenging 150 km bike ride, but we have added a 75 km bike ride, a 10 km run and a 5 km walk! The Tour of the Peace is not just for cyclists anymore! Whatever your abilities, bring them out to help us raise money to Take Type 1 to Type None!

In January of 2015, Dan and Joanna Webster found out the hard way that their son Sam had Type 1 Diabetes. Sam was rushed to the Stollery Children's Hospital in Edmonton suffering from a profound case of diabetic ketoacidosis. Sam made it through that ordeal and adjusted to his new diet and regime of insulin injections, he is able to play hockey, soccer, lift wieghts and cycle thanks to the great diabetes controls that are available today. His toughness and never quit attitude has inspired us to raise money for JDRF, because this little guy is a hero in our eyes and deserves a cure! Sam has participated in the 150 km Tour of the Peace each year and is growing into a strong and healthy young man, through the benefits in diabetes management made possible by groups such as JDRF.
