Tools for Communicating with Youth: Building Safety, Trust, and Belonging

Overview

Thrive Talks are free community events offering practical tools to support and strengthen mental health for you and your community.

This session begins with a simple truth: communication is more than words, it’s safety, trust, and belonging. We’ll explore everyday tools for connecting with youth that help us communicate clearly, ease tense moments, and respond with empathy instead of reacting.

Whether you’re a parent, caregiver, or someone who supports youth, you’ll learn practical skills that strengthen understanding and relationships. We’ll look at how small things, like tone, posture, timing, and presence, can shift a conversation before it starts.

You’ll leave with language that empowers both you and your child, strategies for diffusing tension, and a renewed understanding of how communication is a daily act of healing and protection.
