Description

This intensive 3-day course introduces new users to the basic functionality of TMS Collections, our web-based collections management system. Learn about cataloging objects, linking media to records, searching the database, exporting data, tracking exhibition, loan, and shipping activities, and much more.

Audience

The TMS Collections Core Application Training workshop is appropriate for all TMS Collections users, such as registrars, curators, educators, archivists, support staff, and anyone who uses TMS on a regular basis. This includes:

• New users (e.g., new staff members, students in college/masters programs, soon-to-be job seekers interested in learning TMS Collections, etc.)
• Existing users (who want to refresh their TMS Collections knowledge or learn about the new advancements from a recent upgrade)

Prerequisites

This course assumes that students have little or no familiarity with TMS (both TMS for Windows and TMS Collections). However, experienced TMS users who want to expand their understanding of TMS Collections will also benefit from participating in this hands-on workshop.

Course Objectives

Learn how to create new records and perform data entry in all modules, link media records, searching strategies, batch data entry and cleanup tasks. Also learn how to use the Composer Tool, which is part of the TMS Web Application product suite to create data entry views.

Recommended Setup for Online Workshops

The online version of this training session has been designed with a hands-on approach. For an optimal learning experience, we strongly recommend the following setup:

• A strong internet connection
• 1 monitor for viewing the training [a computer or a large tablet]
• 1 computer monitor for working in your TMS database
• A hands-free phone or a headset
• Ability to use remote desktop (MAC users will need app from Mac App Store)
