Event description
Join us for evening three of Till and Sow, a kōrero exploring purposeful work for the good of our city

About this event

Our Christian faith calls us to work for the Lord, to do everything for his glory. But what does this look like on the ground, in our day-to-day working lives? What does it mean to be a disciple of Jesus Christ in law, business, the arts, social justice, international development, and entertainment? And, is our work actually meaningful in the Kingdom of God?

We warmly invite you to the third and final conversation of Till and Sow, a collaborative initiative between Laidlaw College, Venn Foundation, and the Auckland Church leaders Association. Over three evenings, we're hearing from business leaders, social justice advocates, and international development experts as they share the challenges and opportunities they’ve faced as disciples of Jesus Christ in their work.

Over drinks and nibbles, you’ll gather with a community of like-minded young professionals and hear from men and women of faith sharing their key learnings, and their journeys toward deeper understanding of God, the world, the church, and their work. Together, we’ll imagine what it might look like to work purposefully for the good of our city.

Our third evening will be with guest speakers Phoebe and David Atkinson

Phoebe and David are passionate about intentional community and community development. They recently set up Forrest Hill Community Garden trust as a way of connecting the community, offering horticultural education, and growing organic, sustainable food. Phoebe serves in the role of trustee and Garden Coordinator. David is Chair of the Garden Trust.

In their other roles, Phoebe has worked as a planner, school chaplain, and teacher. Her areas of vocational interest are horticulture, community development, and social capital, all of which are being outworked in the community garden. Dave has spent his career in not-for-profit work, beginning as a presenter, then moving into marketing, strategic partnerships, and leadership. He is currently CEO of Parenting Place, a charity working towards the flourishing of New Zealand whānau. He has also spent more than a decade running his own creative business, most recently focused on humanitarian film making. He is passionate about leadership, education, creativity, and intentional community.

Together they share their greatest role as parents to Harley and Kyla, both of whom are adopted. The pain and joy that is found through adoption has been formational in their outlook on life and faith. They live in Forest Hill on Auckland’s North Shore and worship at St Paul’s Auckland.

Join us as we seek to follow the ways of Christ in our workplaces, for the good of our city.
