🌍 About the Series

Threads of Us is a 3-part hands-on arts workshop series by Across the Border CIC, inviting participants to explore identity, belonging, and memory through creative making.
Each session focuses on a different artistic medium, from patterns and textiles to colour and storytelling, offering a welcoming space to reflect, create, and connect across cultures.

🧶 About Session 2: Textiles & Memory

In this session, we’ll explore how fabrics can hold stories, of migration, family, place, and time. From quilts and embroidery to woven cloths and patchwork, textiles often carry memory in every thread.

Through guided creative exercises, you’ll:
✨ Reflect on an object or fabric that reminds you of “home.”
🎨 Learn about textile traditions from around the world, from Palestinian tatreez to West African kente and Central Asian patterns.
🪡 Create your own memory page using fabric scraps, beads, and collage — blending textures, colours, and words that tell your story.
🤝 Contribute your page to a shared community scrapbook celebrating our collective journeys.

You don't need any prior art experience, just curiosity, creativity, and an openness to share.

🪡 What We Provide

All materials are included: fabrics, beads, thread, glue, paper, and collage supplies.
You’re also welcome to bring a small photo or fabric piece that holds personal meaning to include in your artwork.

💬 What to Expect

This is a relaxed, interactive session led by experienced community artists. You’ll work individually and collaboratively, with moments for reflection, storytelling, and group sharing.

By the end, you’ll have created a personal artwork that captures a memory and contributed to a growing community archive of belonging.
