Event description

This workshop has been canceled

Workshop Descriptor:

Project based learning and Design Thinking are both important frameworks that can be used with learners to harness the power of inquiry in the classroom. As teachers we have the opportunity to develop authentic learning experiences that empower our students to engage in creative, critical thinking and to exhibit perseverance and collaboration while simultaneously acquiring the skills and knowledge required to stay true to our standards. This workshop will help participants understand the similarities and differences between project based learning and design thinking so that they will be able to:

  • Design learning experiences based on students finding problems as well as solving them.

  • Understand the role teacher questioning has in developing student inquiry and in the overall design thinking process (e.g. ‘Yes, and...?’ , ‘How can we…?’)

  • Use the design thinking process across the curriculum to create learning experiences which link to content standards while supporting the development of creative, critical thinking, perseverance and collaboration

  • Develop projects which will enhance student ownership and learning through design thinking and consider how this approach affects the curriculum

The workshop is suitable for teachers of elementary and secondary age students and will share examples of design thinking and projects involving a variety of age groups. Teachers are encouraged to bring previous projects/units that they are interested in revising.
