7-Hour Workshop

Date: Saturday, June 14th

Time: 10am-5pm

Description: Whether you are brand new to woodworking or have some experience, bandsaw boxes are a super fun way to explore shape, texture, and color as you learn how to create two lidded boxes, each from a single block of wood, in this one-day workshop. We will begin by looking at examples of bandsaw boxes, both finished and in-progress, and discuss ways to approach constructing them. Next, we will prepare the wood using a jointer and planer, make a plan to approach cutting up each block of wood on the bandsaw to create the “parts” for the boxes, as well as how to glue them back together. We will review the different hand tools that can be used to shape and embellish the outer surfaces of the boxes (rasps, files, carving gouges, spokeshave, and the wood burner). We will also cover using milk paint and other finishing options to add color to the designs.
