The Whiskey Rebellion B.Y.O.B. (Class #387)

Whiskey was not the original choice of alcohol for United States, it was Rum. But with a growing agricultural economy farmers found the best way to store extra grain was to convert it into whiskey.

Initially this was not an issue. However with rising debt the new country saw an opportunity to raise money to pay for the war of independence, so a tax was started.

This resulted in a rebellion. This is that story and a discussion of some of the inital and continuing brands.
