Angela Orebaugh, Associate Professor of Computer Science, Department of Computer Science, School of Engineering
Angela Orebaugh, Associate Professor of Computer Science, School of Engineering, blends cybersecurity expertise with a passion for digital well-being and mindful tech use. At UVA, she partners with the Contemplative Science Center and co-edits the Contemplation + Technology special edition of the Journal for Contemplative Studies. She created the course Human-Centered Computing for Digital Well-Being, helping students design tech that supports human flourishing. With over 25 years in cybersecurity, Angela has advised NIST, DoD, intelligence agencies, and startups. She holds a Ph.D. in Engineering from George Mason, an M.S. in Computer Science from James Madison, and a Master of Liberal Arts in Sustainability from Harvard. She’s authored six books, 30+ articles, and seven NIST publications. Her teaching spans UVA, George Mason, UC Berkeley, and Penn State. Angela serves on editorial boards and committees including UVA’s PIT-UN Steering Committee, Women in Cybersecurity, and the Virginia Cyber Range.
