The Walkout

In 1968, students at Edgewood High School walked out to protest unfair school conditions and call for better opportunities. Their actions sparked a movement that raised big questions about how Texas funds its public schools—questions that still matter today.

Join us for a Shared Table to reflect on this powerful history, hear personal stories, and talk about what education looks like in our communities now. Over a meal, we’ll come together as neighbors to listen, learn, and imagine a better future for all students.

What if your neighbor was the person who lived across the street from you and the person who lived across town? What if your neighbor was the person you immediately related to and the person who seemed to have nothing in common with you? How would this change your view of your neighborhood and your view of San Antonio?

These are the questions we are asking at Know Your Neighbor. To truly understand San Antonio, who do we need to know and count as our neighbor? By sharing stories and experiences, we hope to create a more whole story about what life is like in San Antonio for all our neighbors.
