The Tea on ICBT and what the DSM Doesn’t Tell You About OCD
Overview
This foundational training on Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder (OCD) introduces attendees to the core features of the condition—including how obsessions, compulsions, “Pure O,” and mental rituals develop and affect daily life. Building on this groundwork, the session offers a clear and approachable overview of Inference-Based Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (ICBT), beginning with the basics and moving into its central mechanism of change: inferential confusion. Participants will gain an understanding of what ICBT looks like in practice, the benefits it offers compared to traditional approaches, and the growing body of research supporting its effectiveness. Designed for healthcare professionals, educators, and anyone seeking a deeper, more supportive understanding of OCD, this training equips attendees to recognize symptoms, understand treatment pathways, and respond with informed, evidence-based guidance. A Q&A will conclude the session to ensure clarity and application. This presentation will be given by Madison Di Silvio, LPC, MA, NCC, who specializes in the treatment of Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder and related conditions. As both a clinician and an individual with lived experience, she brings a unique depth of insight to her work. Madison utilizes Inference-Based Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (ICBT), Exposure and Response Prevention (ERP), and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT). Madison is an active advocate for OCD awareness and education. She has provided trainings for the Illinois Counseling Association (ICA) and has presented at the International OCD Foundation (IOCDF) Annual Conference as well as the OCD Southern California Conference. She also shares educational resources through her Instagram and Etsy shop, obsessivelystrong, where she promotes accessible, stigma-reducing information for the OCD community.
