Don’t touch that dial! Join us as one of Shakespeare’s most controversial shows is transformed into a 1950s sitcom. Our hero Petruchio is new in town- and that pesky independent Katherina is about to become his good obedient housewife, whether she likes it or not. This production digs into the comedic convention of “punching down” at those with lesser societal power, and the contrast between the play’s dark subject matter and its comedic style. If you’ve ever loved, hated, or wrinkled your nose in tenth grade English class at The Taming of the Shrew, this play is for you.
Arachne Theater presents for the second time at Caveat our annual two-show summer festival! Our 5th annual season (woohoo!) is "A Midsummer Night's Dream" and "Taming of the Shrew." We believe that these shows were created to be timely, funny, and thought-provoking... and while the insurance people have said we can't allow you groundlings to throw tomatoes at us, audience participation and investment in classic theater is a cornerstone to our irreverence. We reject wholeheartedly the idea that Shakespeare should be enjoyed quietly. So come hoot, holler, drink, be merry, and even have the opportunity to submit ad lib lines to our actors!
