Welcome to the Compelling Characters Workshop that is part of The Summer Side Quest Series with Jalyn Renae Fiske, author of the award-winning short story collection, Side Quest: Stories. This is the third of three online workshops she is offering this summer to help authors level up their creative writing and guide them toward publication.

With her 10 years of experience as a fiction editor and published short story author, Jalyn knows what it's like to be on both sides of the editor's desk: as the one submitting and the one accepting or rejecting. Join her as she goes in-depth into archetypes, characterization, motivations, compelling arcs, and pitfalls to avoid. Frequently asked questions

Is this workshop only for fiction writers?

Anyone can learn from the discussion; however, the examples will be focused on creative fiction and creative nonfiction.

Do I have to attend all three workshops in the series?

You can register for one, two, or all three. The workshops are the same price, same timeframe, and only once a month to make attending the whole series the most feasible for those who wish, but you don't have to commit to all three. Each one has its own topic independent of the others.

What are the three topics of the workshops in the series?

June 22nd is the "Intro is Everything" workshop, July 20th is the "Dynamic Dialogue" workshop, and August 10th is the "Compelling Characters" workshop.

Why is it called Summer Side Quest?

Summer because it takes place in June, July, and August, and Side Quest because that is the name of Jalyn's short story collection. SIDE QUEST: STORIES was released in November 2024 and is available for order wherever books are sold.
