The Immersive Learning Research Network (iLRN) released the inaugural The State of XR and Immersive Learning Report at the 7th International iLRN Conference. The report is designed to identify and describe the immersive technology developments and trends poised to influence learning. This report is the culmination of an annual, Delphi-inspired environmental scanning and forecasting study. To attend please register and a Zoom link will be emailed 24 hours prior to the event.
About The Immersive Learning Research Network (iLRN)
The Immersive Learning Research Network (iLRN) is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization that connects educators, developers, and researchers to work together on developing the scientific, technical, and applied potential of immersive learning. New and emerging virtual reality (VR), augmented reality (AR), mixed reality (MR), and other related technologies (collectively known as “XR”) present new opportunities for tackling some of the world’s most capacious and pressing societal, environmental, and economic problems; iLRN seeks to foster a global, interdisciplinary community of scholarship and practice, founded on the principles of open science and open design, aimed at leveraging these opportunities for the good of our planet and its inhabitants.
Central to iLRN’s mission and goals is developing and showcasing a rigorous evidence base of “what works” for facilitating effective and engaging experiences using XR and immersive technologies across the full span of learning—from K-12 through higher education to work-based, informal, and lifelong learning contexts. By offering resources, tools, and forums for experts to meet, share, and collaborate as well as by undertaking its own, strategically targeted research efforts, independently and in partnership with other organizations, iLRN strives to assist and promote the development of knowledge, skills, principles, and practices throughout the multitude of enterprises where the unique affordances of the technology may be powerfully harnessed to support and catalyze human learning and achievement.
About Digital Bodies
Digital Bodies is an international consulting group focusing on the use of immersive technologies in education, workforce development, the creative industries, and peacemaking initiatives around the world. We have partnered with education institutions, libraries, NGOs, nonprofits, film festivals, and worked with the EDUCAUSE Learning Initiative, EAB, New York University, Yale University, Arizona State University, and visiting scholars in the Fulbright Program on innovation in higher education. In Europe, we have advised the European Commission and worked with the Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD). In 2020, we were selected as the Arizona State University (ASU) Innovators in Residence for the ShapingEDU initiative and in that role developed the Humanizing Immersive Learning Project and framework. Our services include AR and VR workshops, demos, keynote talks, professional development, and project management.

We are at an inflection point where our digital tools and platforms are no longer passive extensions of ourselves on external screens but the building blocks of immersive experiences and virtual worlds. Digital Bodies was co-founded by Maya Georgieva and Emory Craig and is based in New York City. Our academic and professional backgrounds include education, international affairs and human rights, philosophy, immersive technologies, and creative media and arts.
