The Scene Throwdown N Geektown – Together Again Where It All Began!

On July 19th, from 5 PM to 9 PM, the legendary Detroit dance show makes its grand return, bringing history full circle. The Scene, the iconic television show that defined a generation, is back at its original location, now a museum, to celebrate its legacy and raise funds for The Scene Wall of Flame, a special exhibit honoring the show’s dancers, crew, and cultural impact.

For the first time in nearly 38 years, Nat Morris, The Scene dancers, and the original crew will reunite in the building where it all began at 3146 E. Jefferson, Detroit. Fans, dancers, and viewers—old and new—will gather for an unforgettable event filled with energy, rhythm, and the magic that made The Scene legendary, and one of the most electrifying dance shows in history.

This historic event will take place indoors and outdoors, featuring tents, seating, and food and beverage trucks to create a festival-like atmosphere. At 6 o’clock sharp, everybody will be asked go LIVE across all platforms, kicking things off with our opening rap It’s 6 O’clock and It’s time to rock, then we’ll change the name of this town from Motown to Geektown and ask the question are you ready to throw down, And go into The Open and Spread, The Scene Dance Line, The GQ Hustle, and for 2025 the Boots on the Ground Hustle and of course and of course we will Jit a lil bit! It’s the Throwdown N Geektown.

This will be more than a nostalgic throwback—it’s a moment to make history again and honor The Scene Dancers and crew. Join us as 12 years of culture, community, and celebration collide in this electrifying summer event. July 19th, 5 pm to 9 pm at our own Museum, The Scene Throwdown N Geektown – Together Again Where It All Began!

Don’t just watch history—dance in it. 🎶🔥

The WGPR TV-62 Historical Society established and operates the William V. Banks Broadcast Museum. Over a 24-month period the Society collected photographs, oral histories, artifacts, and memorabilia on station history. They worked with a museum designer to create an exhibit that was first seen at the Detroit Historical Museum’s Community Gallery from January to April of 2016. The exhibit story panels were designed to be portable and were stored while the original studio of TV62 was converted and renovated to create space for the William V. Banks Broadcast Museum & Media Center. Sponsorship support from the International Masons and WGPR Radio Inc. made this possible. Founder Karen Hudson Samuels
