“Counting the great drummers of the Count Basie Orchestra is like counting stars…You can add Robert Boone to the list.” ArtsATL

Our 2025-2026 series begins with a concert by the Grammy Award-winning drummer Robert Boone, Jr. and his quartet. A featured performer with The Legendary Count Basie Orchestra, Robert also serves on the jazz faculty of Georgia State University. He is deeply committed to music education and community outreach and makes time in his globe-trotting schedule to teach at middle and high schools throughout Atlanta. In addition to performing at major jazz festivals in the States and abroad, he has appeared at such premier venues as the Blue Note, Birdland, the Cobb Energy Centre, Spivey Hall, and Yoshi’s. This young jazz dynamo has collaborated with renowned artists John Clayton, Wycliffe Gordon, Kurt Elling, Dee Dee Bridgewater, and Marcus Roberts and is currently a member of the band, The Boom! Trio, featuring vocal artist Lavahi, with whom he is creating original music. In the centennial year of the birth of Max Roach, one of the most influential drummers in jazz history, Robert is paying tribute to the musician and social activist whose iconic We Insist! Freedom Now Suite was one of the driving forces in the Civil Rights Movement.
