In this lighthearted yet practical speech, Terri draws from her Toastmasters journey to explore how having the “right tool” can make all the difference when speaking. From mastering gestures and vocal variety to structuring a clear introduction, body, and conclusion, she shows how every speaker can sharpen their skills to deliver a message that connects. With a touch of humor (and maybe a pointer to true north), Terri reminds us that effective speaking—like good mapping—depends on having the right tools and knowing how to use them.

About the speaker:

Meet Terri Rogers — GIS Guru, Lifelong Learner, and Map Maker.
Growing up in the age of rotary phones and no warning labels, she learned early how to find her way — a skill that evolved into a lifelong passion for mapping. Today, as a GIS Administrator (aka map whisperer) with TWU, Terri helps others find their direction — even when they don’t know they’re lost. When she’s not making maps, she’s battling AI monsters online, “reading” TV with captions, and outsmarting mystery plots before the final twist, all while keeping her husband, kids, grandkids, and a particularly opinionated miniature donkey laughing.
