The Rewind is a community of storytellers who gather monthly at DC Writer's Salon. Our open mic night is a low-stakes space to share a personal, true story (7min or less) in front of a supportive audience. Or just sit back and join the audience and see what some of DC's best storytellers are cooking.

Our suggested (totes optional) story theme for October is "Falling."

Note: While we encourage you to pursue creative expression in all forms (poems, personal essays and journalistic pieces), our stage is for true personal stories about something that happened to you.

What is storytelling?

There are many kinds of stories, but at the Rewind we share true, personal stories that happened to you. Engage the audience by describing what you wanted, the obstacles that got in the way, and how it all turned out. The more honest, the better - let us know what know what it's like being you.

How do I sign up?

There will be a sign-in sheet when you get there! Or you can email the hosts in advance once you've RSVP'd. The open mic is semi-randomized, meaning we give preference to those who have attended The Rewind workshops in the past and who are 'off-book' ready to tell with no notes, but all are welcome!

Can I decide once I get there?

Absolutely. Come check it out and add your name to the list if you feel moved to.

Where can I find some story inspiration?

Search YouTube for "The Moth" or "Story District" to see some recordings of great personal stories.
