THE REACTIVE ABUSE POP UP WORKSHOP
In the years since the inception of the group, one of the biggest questions we get asked from folks is the question: Am I the narcissist? Our members then go on to describe incidents that led that to the conclusion that they were the problem in the narcissistic abuse cycle and not their partner. A closer look at these incidents almost always reveals that the party worried that they were the narcissist were actually participating in reactive abuse, a phenomenon where the victim is poked and prodded into reaction by a narcissist who then can “DARVO” (Deny, Attack, Reverse Victim and Offender) their way out of a situation.
We are offering a one night only workshop on Thursday February 6, 2025 at 6 pm EST where we will go over what reactive abuse is, what it is not and provide examples of situations of reactive abuse. But most importantly, we will discuss coping mechanisms and how to stop reactive abuse in it’s tracks BEFORE it turns into a pissing match with a narcissist who will most certainly use your actions against you.
WHAT IS REACTIVE ABUSE?
Reactive abuse is specifically defined as a manipulation tactic used by perpetrators of abuse to convince both the victim of abuse and others that they are the ones being abused. It occurs when the person being abused reacts strongly to the abuse they’re suffering, perhaps choosing to argue back or physically defend themselves from the person abusing them. Once they do this, the person abusing them uses it as an example or “proof” that they are actually being abused, and that the person being abused is actually to blame. (Defined by Thriveworks)
WHAT TO EXPECT IN THIS WORKSHOP?
Clear definitions of reactive abuse, question and answer from group members, how to recognize when it is happening, coping mechanisms to prevent it and reassurance that YOU are not the narcissist for reactive abuse occurring. Power point information will be available to all attending members post workshop.
COST:
$20.00 for this pop up 2 hour workshop. You do not have to be an established member to attend this workshop.
YOUR ORGANIZER: Kerrin is an attorney and mother of three who believed every time that she was sucked into reactive abuse that SHE was the problem. Four years of therapy proved clarity into these events and while she still gets sucked into reactive abuse with toxic people on occasion, she’s learned to use coping mechanisms to recognize the pattern, stop it in it’s tracks and understand why it happens.
If you are experiencing periods of reactive abuse, this workshop is for you. Power Point materials will be provided for reference after class.
Remember: IF YOU'RE WORRIED ABOUT THIS, YOU'RE LIKELY NOT THE PROBLEM
