The People’s Poets is an open mic experience curated to amplify voices of color in the PNW. We aim to support both aspiring and established writers in our community with a platform to share their talents. We believe all writers of color deserve a safe space where their voices are not marginalized. The People’s Poets is a home for creatives and community lovers to feel inspired, validated, and poetically nourished. With the alarming rate of gentrification in the PNW it is crucial for BIPOC (Black, Indigenous, People of Color) poets to have a place to gather and embrace one another's voice, culture, and story. The People’s Poets is a safe space where everyone is welcome, but the mic is reserved exclusively for the BIPOC community. We are now hosted every second Sunday at Akadi!
Doors open at 1pm show starts around 1:30pm! Tickets will be $15 at the door!
This is an all ages event. Food and drinks will be available for purchase!
About the featured poet:
Ebony Stewart is an award-winning poet, playwright, and performance artist known for her powerful work as an artivist and as a social justice activator. As the 2017 Woman of the World Poetry Slam Champion, she has performed internationally and authored acclaimed works like WASH, BloodFresh, and Home.Girl.Hood. She is the coach of the phenomenal 2x regional champs, SMOKE Slam. Stewart is also a mental health advocate and former educator.
