About this event

THE NUTCRACKER

Make the Holiday Season memorable! The tale of little Clara, her toymaker uncle and a Nutcracker toy that transforms in a prince is filled with funny battles with the mice and flavors from a worldwide journey to the Kingdom of Sweets. Chiara Ajkun's version for Ajkun Ballet Theatre is perfect for children and adults alike and completed by complimentary photos with the cast.

This performance is part of the Face to Face Series.

The Show: During the festive Holiday Season, Herr Drosselmeyer surprises his niece Clara with special gifts to everyone’s delight: a Ballerina and a Nutcracker life size doll. When the party is over, Clara sneaks out of bed to play with her Nutcracker and begins dreaming of fearless and clumsy mice coming to feast over scraps but her fantasy is quickly interrupted by the Mouse King fight with the Nutcracker. To settle the battle, Herr Drosselmeyer brings to life the Doll.

A magical journey through enchanted snowflakes takes Clara and her Nutcracker to the Kingdom of Sweets. Greeted by the Dewdrop Fairy, Clara is entertained by dances from far lands such as Spain, Arabia, Russia, and China. The fragrant Flowers Waltz introduces Clara to the Sugar Plum Fairy and her Cavalier Grand Pas de Deux. See also www.ajkunbt.org/nutcracker-tickets

The story of the Nutcracker, Chiara Ajkun and the Ajkun Ballet’s Classics

On the wave of the great success of the ballet The Sleeping Beauty, the Moscow Imperial Theaters commissioned The Nutcracker ballet to choreographer Marius Petipa and composer Pyotr Ilych Tchaikovsky. Alexandre Dumas Père’s adaptation of the story by E.T.A. Hoffmann “The Nutcracker and the Mouse King (1816) premiered a week before Christmas in 1892, performed by the Mariinksy Ballet. The first complete production in the United States premiered in San Francisco on Christmas Eve 1944. Chiara Ajkun’s Nutcracker depicts a magical world of children, family, toys, snowflakes and candy that speaks to everyone, making this art form accessible and the perfect introduction to ballet.

Chiara Ajkun’s Nutcracker

originally commissioned in 2007 by the Westchester County Arts Supervisor in New Rochelle for its premiere at the Whitney Theater, Chiara Ajkun’s The Nutcracker marked the beginning of a new kind of classics - designed specifically for today’s audiences. Presented as part of the New York City ballet classics by the Ajkun Ballet Company, The Nutcracker is available through both our Face To Face and In Theater experiences. Blending elegant classical choreography with authentic cultural expressions, Chiara Ajkun’s Nutcracker is thoughtfully crafted to be accessible and enjoyable for audiences of all ages. The production avoids unsettling scenes, and instead of frightening villains, the mice are portrayed as funny, whimsical creatures, sparking laughter and delight—especially among younger viewers.

The Nutcracker is part of The Classics, the repertory of the Ajkun Ballet Company encompassing traditional titles from the 19th and 20th centuries and completed by The Originals, the collection of extraordinary new art by Chiara Ajkun.
